SNP retain North East Fife by two votes

The SNP have retained North East Fife after a third recount.

The second recount put the Liberal Democrats’ Elizabeth Riches ahead of SNP incumbent Stephen Gethins by a single vote, however Gethins, the SNP’s Europe spokesman was ultimately triumphant.

The constituency was represented by former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell from 1987-2015, when he opted not to seek re-election.

North East Fife constituency includes the famous golf and university town of St. Andrews and shares its name with a smaller Scottish parliamentary constituency.
