Labour Takes Peterborough

Labour has won in the constituency of Peterborough.

Fiona Onasanya  gained the constituency with 22,900 votes, in a narrow loss for Conservative candidate Stewart Jackson who secured 22,343 votes.

Jackson had held the seat since 2005, but with a reduced majority since 2015.

Historically, Peterborough’s election results have shown fierce competition between the Labour and the Conservative parties, with nearly all victories riding on narrow margins.

The last time a Labour MP was elected in Peterborough was in 2001, when Helen Binton secured 45.1 per cent of the vote as opposed to the Conservatives’ 38 per cent.
