First London result announced

The Tooting results came in at 1.25am making it the first London seat to be called. 

Tooting was Sadiq Khan’s old seat and the Conservatives have coveted it in the last two general elections.

Labour won the seat with Rosena Allin-Khan securing a “thumping win” according to the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, with 59.6 per cent and a total of 34,694 votes.

The Conservatives’ Dan Watkins came in second with 19,236 votes and 33.1 per cent.

They lost 8.8 per cent of the vote compared to the Labour gain of 12.4 per cent.

The Lib Dems’ Alexander Glassbrook came in third with 5.3 per cent of the vote, followed by Green Party candidate Esther Obiri-Darko on 1.5 per cent and UKIP’s Ryan Coshall on 0.6 per cent

Tooting is in the historically Conservative borough of Wandsworth, along with Battersea, and Putney, which is the Education Secretary Justine Greening’s constituency.
